About Me

My name is Alex Eickhoff and I was born in Jefferson City, Missouri, USA. I currently share a studio house in Kansas City, MO with my life partner Amanda Noël. Art has been a part of my life since I was a child. I have always battled with great resistance to practicing my craft. Peers would tell me I was talented, but I loved the praise more than I liked to creative process. I would try my hardest while drawing for assignments, but I would rarely draw just for fun. In fact I eventually adopted a terrible slogan throughout elementary school.. “I don’t like art, I just do it because I’m good at it.“

Despite my lack of enthusiasm for art, it was something that was always there. Eventually my bemusement for everything else became greater than making art. So I figured if I was to attend college (expected of me), it would only be for art. Even while obtaining my BFA in Fine Art at Truman State University (go dogs!), I was coasting through classes, putting in only as much effort as was needed to fulfill curriculum requirements and remain in the top handful of student artists. After graduating, I did manual labor jobs for 4 years and began feeling like I was letting my gifts slip away. I was depressed, suicidal, and chronically fighting negative self-talk about how I was wasting my time working for a company, when I should be fulfilling my creative potential. So in 2019 I got my ass in gear and quit my job in order to devote my full attention to developing my artistic abilities.

Art is my religion.

Life has been mostly uncomfortable for me, but art has provided me with a sense of purpose, and a means to finding inner peace. I started living once I answered God’s call to be a creator. The physical acts of drawing, painting and sculpting are great methods for accessing flow state. So I truly make art for the sake of creating. My content varies from realism to abstraction, but I mostly enjoy painting whimsical characters in moments of calm, because this keeps me calm. I know I have created a good work of art, when it causes me to smile. I can only hope that my art provides you with an opportunity to smile too.

I invite you to follow my creative journey on your preferred social media platform. Links can be found at the very bottom of this page. My instagram stories feature real-time updates on all my studio work and mural travels. And you can find in-depth videos of my art-making process on my YouTube channel. I also host a weekly art podcast that streams on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Lets get creative!
